In putng it together the Council had to address
some serious fnancial issues.
In past years the city has grown rapidly and the
Council has made signifcant investments in
infrastructure, facilites and services. These were
funded by borrowing and that means the Council’s
debt rose to an unsustainable level.
In the past fve years the Council has also spent
more than it has earned, resultng in it running
at a loss.
The global fnancial recession contnues to have
substantal impact on the Council’s revenue and
we can no longer sustain the current levels of debt
and spending.
