Our Plans
Council has developed a Waste Minimisaton and
Management Plan and wants to be recognised as a
natonal leader in waste minimisaton.
One of the key challenges is to fnd ways to
encourage our community to reuse, reduce and
recycle to a far greater degree. Making the kerbside
bag collecton service user pays would reduce waste
going to landfll but Council has decided not to make
this change at this tme.
We also need to collect more informaton on the
amount of waste Hamiltonians generate.

Refuse is disposed of in a landfll at Hampton Downs.
We also manage closed landfll sites at Rototuna,
Cobham Drive, Willoughby and Horotu to prevent
adverse efects on the environment and public
health.
The Council has a legal responsibility to reduce
the amount of waste going into landflls and to
encourage more recycling and reuse.
