The libraries provide and host a wide range
of events and actvites from playgroups
and author evenings to book readings and
creatve writng workshops. Some of the events
organised by the libraries are also provided at
other venues around the city.

The Zoo, swimming facilites and the Museum
provide educaton programmes for school
students and the wider community. The target
of 8,000 partcipants at the Zoo refects the
Zoo’s contract with the Ministry of educaton.

WHAT THIS TELLS US
visitor numbers are infuenced by other
factors such as economic conditons, but
they are stll a helpful indicator of the quality
of our facilites.
The Council is not planning any big projects
for these facilites over the next 10 years
and in some cases is cutng back spending.
We are therefore aiming to maintain visitor
numbers at or close to current levels.
We haven’t included theatres or sports areas
in this measure, as the Council provides
the facilites but has less control over the
number of people atending shows or
functons, or using the felds.
